THE GOVERNMENT of Tanzania has confirmed receiving an official notification from the United States announcing that Tanzanian citizens will now be required to pay a visa bond when applying for entry into the U.S. for business purposes.
According to a statement issued on October 8, 2025, by Government Spokesperson and Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Information, Culture, Arts, and Sports, Gerson Msigwa, the decision comes while immigration and mobility discussions between Tanzania and the U.S. are still ongoing.
The Tanzanian government emphasized that it will continue engaging the U.S. through diplomatic channels to reach a fair and mutually beneficial solution, noting the long-standing partnership between the two nations that spans over four decades.
“This move will not alter Tanzania’s commitment to maintaining strong and positive relations with the United States for the mutual benefit of both countries,” the official statement read.
Tanzanians have been urged to continue following regular visa application procedures through U.S. embassies and consulates. The visa bond policy is expected to take effect on October 23, 2025, primarily covering business (B-1) and tourist (B-2) visa categories.
